~*~Summary~*~

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

~*~Lili's Reflections~*~

This book has left me utterly speechless. I've been into angel books lately, so when I saw that this book was about angels of the apocalypse, I had to read it. And let me tell you, I'm so happy that I read it.

This book takes place six weeks after a devastating angel attack on the world. Everything is in ruins and there are barely any survivors. Seventeen year old Penryn, her physically handicapped seven year old sister Paige, and their legitimately insane mother are three of the very few survivors. When an evil angel takes Paige away, Penryn is forced to befriend Raffe, a dying angel she finds on the streets and nurses back to health after his beautiful snowy wings were ripped from his body. Together, they must get to the aerie to rescue Paige and reattach Raffe's wings before it's too late. To make matters worse, the surviving humans are planning to strike back at the avenging angels, and they have to save Paige before the angels base in San Fransisco is completely destroyed. Time is not on their side.

This debut novel is definitely one to pick up. It's fast-paced and full of action. It has a kick ass heroine that knows how to defend herself and survive. It has badass angels that brought on the apocalypse, cannibalistic humans, and one of the most interesting post-apocalyptic worlds that I have ever seen. And the detail in it is absolutely amazing. Be warned, this novel definitely is slightly dark and it does have many fight scenes since Raffe and Penryn are fighting to survive. To put it simply, it's twisted. If you cannot handle bloody details and slightly gruesome descriptions, don't pick up this book. With that being said, I'm a wimp and normally cannot handle such details, but I was not the least bit bothered by the dark atmosphere in this novel because Ee's writing captivated me from page one.

Penryn was an amazing heroine. Seriously, she was in and out of self defense classes ever since she was a little girl. There was no doubt in my mind that Penryn would survive and protect those who she loved. It was refreshing to have a heroine that could truly protect herself in every way possible. Raffe is his own form of strong. He is an angel, after all. He just needs to sleep to heal himself. He's a hard-worker, a perfect Adonis, and a slightly infuriating character. One minute he's cool with Penryn and the next he's pushing her away. When we find out his reasons for doing so, it makes everything totally understandable. Angels can't mate with Daughters of Men or they must face horrid consequences, but he can't help but realize he has some form of feelings for this girl who he has struggled to survive with. This is not a romantic novel, though, so don't pick it up if that's what you're hoping to get from it.

The ending of this novel was absolutely amazing. It sums up most plot points, but leaves room for the next novel in the series. Everything that happened with Raffe blew me away and left me begging for more. This novel is definitely 5 star worthy and will hold a place on my favorites shelf. I am eagerly anticipating the release of the next novel in the Penryn & The End of Days trilogy. This is one trilogy that you simply must read.

~*~Cover~*~

I truly adore this cover. It's simple, but it gets the point of the story across. I think it was a very smart pick by the designer and it definitely makes me want to take the book of the shelves and begin to read! Plus, the severed wings is a huge point in the story.
