2016 Reading Challenges & 2015 Wins and Losses

I am starting off 2016 spending 5 months in another country, so I am choosing to give myself lower challenges under the impression that I won't be reading as much. However, I had a lot of fun doing reading challenges last year despite the fact that I never actually entered any of the giveaways that come with them. So, like last year, I am going to keep track of my challenges at the end of my monthly recaps.

2016 Reading Challenges

Flights of Fantasy is hosted by Alexa of Alexa Loves Books and Rachel of Hello, Chelly
This challenge is about reading the most fantasy books as you can! I did it last year and hit my goal of 25, so I am going to one up myself and go for 30 this time around.
Goal: 30 books

2. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

The Backlist Books Reading Challenge is hosted by Bekka of Pretty Deadly Reviews.
The purpose of this challenge is to read any number of backlist books of your choosing, as long as they were published a year or more before you read the book. This is a new challenge I am participating in, and I am excited!
Goal: 12 books

The Contemporary Challenge is hosted by Montana of The Book Belles and Jillian's Books.
I completed this challenge last year and loved it. I read a lot of contemporary, it's the romance aspect (see previous challenge) aspect that I struggle with. I am going to challenge myself to read more books this year since I successfully achieved Peony rank last year.

The Fairytale Re-telling Challenge is hosted by Mel at The Daily Prophecy.

The Finishing the Series challenge is hosted by Bea of Bea's Book Nook.
This is also a new challenge to me, but since Danielle and I are going to be hosting Summer of Series again, I thought this would keep me in touch with reading more than just those 3 summer series!
Goal: Finish 7 series, Level 4
1. The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot

Danielle and I will definitely be hosting another Summer of Series challenge! We challenge readers to read a series for each month of the summer. I was successful in my challenge last year, so I can't wait to hop in again this year!
Goal: Read 3 series front to back in May, June, and July

2015 Wins and Losses

Fairytale Retelling Challenge: FAIL
I failed so badly! I challenged myself to read 10 books and I only managed 6. These are my favorite books out there, so my failure shows just how little I was able to read this year! :( I am so upset I failed this that this challenge is my priority for 2016. I have signed up for several retelling blog tours just to get back into the swing of things.

Flights of Fantasy Challenge: PASS
I challenged myself to read 25 books and even though I read a huge chunk of those in the month of December, I was able to pass the challenge at the last moment in December. I will be returning next year with a higher goal because I had so much fun with this!

Contemporary Reading Challenge: PASS
I challenged myself to read 11 contemporaries in 2015 and I was able to achieve my goal in August! *dances* I also knocked it out of the park by reading six extra contemporaries than planned! I am such a dominant fantasy reader that this challenge taught me how to appreciate contemporary more. Now to read more romances in 2016 ;) I will also be repeating this challenge in 2016!

TBR Pile Challenge: PASS
I challenged myself to read 5 books off of my TBR this year and I actually completed the challenge in June! Granted, it took Summer of Series to kick my butt into gear, but whatever. I knocked it out of the park by tripling the amount of books I challenged myself to read. I will not be returning to this specific challenge in 2016 because I have instead chosen to sign up for a different version of it hosted by my dear friend, Bekka. I'll also be doubling my goal in 2016 from 5 to 10.

Dive Into Diversity Challenge: PASS
I loved this challenge! I challenged myself to read 6 diverse books because it's not something I felt like I found a ton of in YA lit, but I nearly doubled my goal by managing 11 without going out my way to find diverse books! This put so much faith in me, and I am sad that this challenge will not be returning in 2016. I would have definitely signed up again.

Summer of Series: PASS
This is my own challenge, so it would have been super embarrassing if I didn't pass! However, I did! I knocked out a full trilogy each month of summer and hosted 40+ amazing authors. I can't wait to do this again!

  3. I might have to try summer of series this year as I do have several shorter series that I could read within a month. In general I'm trying to start and finish a few series this year.

  4. Hahaha I FAILED the Fairy Tale challenge too. I challenged myself to read 5-9 and I read TWO. Pitiful.

I'm glad the Summer of Series is back! I signed up for Danielle's year-long series challenge, so obviously I will be doing SoS too. If anything else, I *should* be able to complete SoS, even if I don't complete the series-a-month challenge.

Also if you're interested, the diversity challenge moved hosts this year http://www.readsleeprepeat.org/2015/12/announcing-the-diverse-reads-2016-book-challenge/

    1. We both must be each other's support system for the fairytale challenge! haha

I wanted to sign up for Danielle's series a month challenge, but couldn't because of London. I am hoping to knock SoS out of the park because of it!
